Tuition Cap

Tuition Cap – Undergraduate:

Undergraduate students who take 12 credit hours and above during a semester are charged a flat rate of $5,666 for tuition. This common practice of charging the same amount for a range of credit hours during a semester is called a tuition cap.

UT-Knoxville’s tuition cap is for 12 plus credit hours. Credit-hour-based charges for the Mandatory Fees reach maximum levels at 9 credit hours, except the library fee which caps at 8 credit hours, and are not affected by the tuition cap.

When you are adding credit hours to determine if the total falls within the cap, the calculation can include only those hours that are in the same location. In other words, you cannot combine credit hours at the Knoxville campus with those taken at the Chattanooga Campus because the rates are dissimilar.

If a student enrolls in various locations/programs during a single term, the advantage of the cap (flat rate of $5,666 for 12 plus credit hours) will be lost. Students will be charged per credit hour by location.

PLEASE NOTE:

students enrolled in Engineering, Business (except 100, 500, and 600 level), Nursing, Architecture and Design courses are charged a differential per credit hour rate. Differential tuition is not included in the tuition cap calculation.

EFFECTIVE SUMMER 2014:

students enrolled in summer courses are charged the per credit hour rate. There is “no cap” for courses taken during summer sessions.
